Welcome to Mika Kuroki's home!

I was raised in Kyushu, a southern island of Japan surrounded by profound nature.Since I was a little girl, it's been so ntural for me to play in nature or create something around me.I always enjoyed painting and creating doll's dresses. What I felt in these experiences often revisit me during my current creative processes.Mika Kuroki is a paper-screen printer*. With paper-screen printing techniques, bags, wall clocks and lighting equipment. I really enjoy to go beyond boundaries in my daily creative process.

*Paper-screen printing was a printing technique developed in Japan. It is a similar technique used in silk-screen printing, stencil dyeing, and mimeograph copying.Paper for screen is coated "washi"(Japanese paper). After print the design on the "washi"paper, cut out the desigh you would like to print from the paper.Varnish, crayon and adhesives are used as emulsion to coat your own screen.Ink is blocked by emulsion and pushed through the uncoated area of woven mesh ofthe "washi" paper onto the surfaces you would like to print. With the "washi" paper screen, you can get unique texture of printing.
